Nova-T - is it still needed?

Just has someone call up as they are getting an application error in Nova-T.

Having NEVER used the software before, I havent really got a clue about it

 

But my question is, Nova-T is just timetabling right? Is it still needed when you can do all that within Sims.net? So does the staff member even need to be using it? All it looked like she was doing when the error occurred was printing a students timetable

You're right and you're wrong - Nova-T is for timetabling/cover/etc which can be done in SIMS.net, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are using SIMS in that way. Our timetables here are written in Nova.

AFAIK, Nova is part of SIMS for timetabling as you say. Timetables can be printed off for a student from their entry in SIMS .net. NOVA is still necessary for creating the timetables in the first place each year, and also possibly for altering things such as which classes a teacher teaches, but don't quote me on that

Nova-T is moving to T6 shortly so all timetabling will be done using this tool and Nova-T will disappear into the ether apparently quite shortly so I am told.

Ok, thanks for the clarification. Still sounds like the staff member could just have done what she wanted within SIMS though!

 

And as for the error, its a 'floating point exception in A2600IP.dll'

I originally thought it was just something wrong on an individual PC but shes tried it on several and run into the same problem

Not publicly! Cover 7 is the .net version and it'll be hitting a rather large Program Files folder near you soon!

Oh good.. does this mean we will soon be ditching this rather archaic nova-t for something more palletable?
