ITGURU Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 Hi Our current .sch.uk domain name is managed by our local LEA. Has anyone been able to gain control of their domain and move it to another provider? I've tried 123reg but they said that they don't support the transfer of .sch.uk domains. I want to move it so that I can have control over the DNS entries. Any advice or names of registrars which support this would be useful. thanks.
NokiX Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 It's been a while since i checked who supported then but I think Heart Internet did a few years back, I'm sure they must do now as well since I remember working there when we had some incoming transfers and we found it weird how we had to have the price set to £0. Other than that I'm not too sure, you could contact krystal or smart hosting to see if they offer the option at all since both use WHMCS and you can create sub accounts so multiple people can have access to the domain/domains etc.
FN-GM Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 Zen Internet support it, they charge the same amount as any .uk domain. Plus you actually speak to people who know what they are doing! - http://www.zen.co.uk 1

JonThompson Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 Yes. Go to Nominet to get control of the domain as it belongs to the school not the LEA. We use Vidahost, who provide our external DNS and host our website.
ellsandell Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 There have been a few threads about this last year. http://www.edugeek.net/forums/internet-related-filtering-firewall/155096-sch-uk-registrar-tag.html I know Vidahost is quite popular. (I would probably use them to hold the domain and then use Cloudflare to do the DNS side of things)
Blue_Cookeh Posted January 14, 2017 Posted January 14, 2017 We have our .sch.uk domain with Eclipse Internet, but I had to call them and have it done manually over the phone since their online systems don't accept .sch.uk domains. Nameservers point to Cloudflare, and our site is hosted with WebAnywhere since the HT likes the easy customisation, support, and content management.
ITGURU Posted January 14, 2017 Author Posted January 14, 2017 Thanks everyone, i'll get in touch with them Monday. Can the companies mentioned also host the DNS records for the domain so can keep it all together? I do have another domain with 123reg and all our DNS records for that one are on the same account, so hoping I can do this with another provider for the sch.uk domain, as 123 reg don't support these.

Vidahost / Tsohost can.
GrumbleDook Posted January 14, 2017 Posted January 14, 2017 You could leave it where it is and just get the NS changed to whoever you want to handle DNS, such as Dyn.com?

Zen Can. And you can manage it yourself.
