angrycomputingteacher Posted December 28, 2016 Posted December 28, 2016 Hello. I'm looking for some software i can use to create an image out of the current state of a computer then I can deploy it myself. I'm using a workgroup so WDS is not an option. Thanks
snagrat Posted December 28, 2016 Posted December 28, 2016 MDT and build a bootable CD so no need for WDS
Cazale Posted December 28, 2016 Posted December 28, 2016 You can use WDS without a domain from Server 2008 R2 onward.
angrycomputingteacher Posted December 28, 2016 Author Posted December 28, 2016 Another issue is that we don't have Windows server. We have a NAS setup as a file server. All clients are Windows.
snagrat Posted December 28, 2016 Posted December 28, 2016 MDT doesn't need to run on a server. Just have a workstation acting as the deployment share. The share could be on the NAS so it can be easily moved to a different machine at any time
MrKJLS Posted December 28, 2016 Posted December 28, 2016 Another issue is that we don't have Windows server. We have a NAS setup as a file server. All clients are Windows. Depending on the NAS, if it's a synology NAS box you can use clonezillia. http://www.nclone.com/getting-started/
angrycomputingteacher Posted December 29, 2016 Author Posted December 29, 2016 I'll try Clonezilla today. 1

Guru42 Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 Just curious if you ever tried Clonezilla, what you thought of it. I don't see a lot of people using it like I used to. It's open source (aka Free) so if you don't have a budget for software it fills the need.
Stormborn15 Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 Used to use Clonezilla till I was introduced to MDT.. I used to do whole disk so needed to make an image of every type of computer - including different size hard disks. There is an option to do parts but always struggled to make this work. Works from server - ie image on a shared drive ( specific path required) and push out over wired network. ( but will still need USB s to initiate the initial run of Clonezilla )
