Ant Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 We've really struggled with this too. We currently have an official page, but also an auto-generated page which we have been unable to merge or take control of. Very Frustrating.

Does the auto-generated page take traffic away from your official site? When I google our school+facebook the autogenerated one is at the top of the list of results. I think If I can get more checkins and like on our official page then it will go higher in the rankings as more people will be visiting it.

Yes it does unfortunately, like yours, the auto-generated site is higher up the rankings. Our auto-generated page was created using the wiki page for our school, and I know there are issues trying to claim these and it doesn't help that it's this page that comes up when people try check-in or tag their location.

Yes. Exactly the same for us. Some pages give you the option "Is this your Business?" and you can claim it. Take a look at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Vyner-Primary-School/295072190650886 I don't think this school exists, or doesn't anymore but you have the option of claiming the page. It doesnt have any posts or checkins so that might be the difference. Doesnt seem to be a direct way to contact Facebook themselves but I have asked the question on their help forums.

We've given up for now as we were going round in circles and getting nowhere. We also see the "Is this your Business?" link, but not when we log in. Interestingly, our official page, the one that never appears when you search for it, has more likes than the auto-generated page, but less check-ins.

You need to get your check-ins stacking up I think then it will move up the rankings. 1

fiza Posted January 11, 2017 Author Posted January 11, 2017 Thanks, often easier said than done though! We are hopefully getting our Alumni to visit the page and check-in. We will also be asking all our staff to do the same. Hopefully that will bring our numbers up!
aidenbran2000 Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 I managed to get our official page verified now but how did you then manage to gain control of the auto-generated page? How did you get yours verified i don't even seem to get that option
fiza Posted February 8, 2017 Author Posted February 8, 2017 How did you get yours verified i don't even seem to get that option Login - go to the page settings - verify page (was listed as an option). We had to either give an official phone number so we could get an automated call to verify or documents. The phone call didn't work for us as we have auto attendant phone system so we gave a recent phone bill. Took 2 days I think and we had the tick.
fiza Posted February 8, 2017 Author Posted February 8, 2017 Once we were verified and reported the auto generated page as a duplicate link several times it now redirects traffic from the auto page to our official page. Not ideal but its as good as we can hope for with no direct way to talk to Facebook support.
kennysarmy Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 How did you get yours verified i don't even seem to get that option I'm having the same problem. Created an "Official" page this morning and added in the cover and profile photo which I believe are the only criteria but when I check in settings there is no option to verify... Anyone any ideas?
