Specialist Printing Help Required

Afternoon all.

 

I could do with a little help today.

 

I'm putting together a christmas present for my lovely wife.

 

This involves my making the Criminologist's book from The Rocky Horror Show as she's a big fan and they never made it available for purchase.

 

Anyhow, I've cunningly sourced all the material i need to make said book, got all the photos, witness statements, and bumf printed.

 

However, I need to print out a hardback book cover in a custom size of 57.15cm wide by 38.1cm tall (File attached).

 

 

Does anybody know a good (and cheap) printers I could email this to and get a glossy print done quickly?

 

Better still if you have a printer at school and fancy knocking a copy out, I'll buy you beers at BETT this year

@VeryPC Al has some fancy printing equipment - for mouse mats, mugs, laptop skins etc... maybe he could help?

I haven't got any glossy paper but I could print it onto canvas for you if it's any help ? It has a bit of a feel to it rather than glossy paper. Just a thought.

Canvas sounds cool, but i have no idea how durable it will be? It needs to cover a hardback book and be in a house where there's every chance my kids will get hold of it.

 

What do you reckon? Is it hard-wearing?

You're welcome Dave.

Yes, I'd say it's durable, far more than glossy paper, it's quality canvas with Epson UltraChrome ink. Granted I usually stretch the prints over a box frame but the samples I printed off months ago are still kicking about and not worn.

I have satin and gloss spray varnish to give it a bit of extra protection too if required.

Not got any suitable printers here, but do have an alternative suggestion if you have time/patience/crafting skills: source some suitable green leather (eBay?), a couple of sheets of suitable marbled card (eBay/Hobbycraft?) and gilt paint (ditto) and make your own. You could probably even get the raised effect on the banding with some judicious scoring from the underside. The book title may be a bit tricky, though.

This was considered, but would be very difficult to keep a secret.

 

The arts & crafts corner in our house is very much my wife's domain, if i were to use anything in making this i'd be rumbled in seconds!

We can print glossy vinyl with or without a textured laminate (recommend with for protection) as a large sticky backed label for application to an existing hardcover if you have one.

 

An alternative idea I had was to find an old style ledger with a similar-ish size and appearance to your artwork and use its hardcover (just add a "THE DENTON AFFAIR" label in the middle - happy to print one of those for you bud). The nearest thing I can find in size and appearance after a quick search is something called a "Boorum & Pease 23 Series Columnar Book" (14 1/8 x 10 7/8 inches closed). Brand new they are really expensive and seem to only be available in North America, but maybe you can find a used one cheaper that you could give a new life or a similar product that's available in the UK? It's just an idea, but thought it might help give the exterior of the book a bit of authenticity.
