Staff IT Usage Policies - for new staff

Hi

 

We are secondary school .I have new staff who dosen't work for our IT Support department , but works for a different department and has expertise in programming and he is running scripts on our network PCs and had brought his own Wireless devices and has connected to our network,

broadcasting new SSID.

I would like to deal with this staff and what procedures you follow for a new staff related to IT when they join your School - Do you ask them to sign a document (IT Rules and regulations) .

Do you have any IT policies in in place at your school? Please can a sample document \or link be posted?

 

Any help and suggestions would be really great.

All my users are presented with an AUP upon login, which they must accept to continue to their desktop. For the adults it is quite comprehensive, for the children its a 10 commandments sort of vibe.

Programs such as Impero, and NetSupport (and presumably other network monitoring programs) can be configured to present an unavoidable (forcefully logs you off if you decline) full screen AUP on logon, and keeps a record of who, and when, the AUP was agreed by. That's the most foolproof option i've found over the years, but I'm sure there's more ways of achieving it too.

How is he connecting wireless devices to your network ? He would have to change gateways etc presumably for internet access. It sounds like there are issues with the network security if I'm honest. Ultimately the book stops with you. I get my staff to sign a copy of the aup and I also present it via imperial as others do.

 

I'd be worried though if he was running scripts etc. That should be locked down completely.

Before we give all students and staff their logon details we make sure our AUP's are signed and returned - Works here as one more click to something and there's outrage.

@genesis apologies for the late reply it's been a busy week or 2. I run a RM CC4 network so configure the AUP via RMMC, but it ultimately is done via GP there are plenty of how-to's online. I have configured the AUP to display on login and if the user does not accept then they are logged off!

I don't stand for any of that sort of rubbish! We expect our staff to be accepting of change, especially such a negligible one!

If someone was running scripts and adding their own equipment to "my" network, I would be going ape and ripping it all out and making sure it went to the top that this can't happen. If he needs this kind of thing for work purposes, then he should be working with the IT department to find safe ways, in terms of network security for him to do this.

Fortunately our staff are... how do I say this... well put it this way! They wouldn't even know what a script was lul!
