Casio projector "starry" black strip at base of screen

Odd issue with a Casio XJ141 - there's a black strip with white dots randomly across it, at the bottom of the projected image on the smartboard (about the size of the task bar in Windows, but above it slightly). It's effectively "in front" of the image of the computer screen, and in fact is the whole width of the board rather than the projected image. However I think it's the projector as when first started up, the strip appears higher up and out of focus before sharpening up and moving to the bottom.

Have you checked the lens on the projector for obstructions / dirt?

Sounds like the DLP chip is on the way out.

 

It may get worse and you have 2 options. Send it off for a repair or buy a new projector.

Yeah, that's a failing DMD chip. They fit in sockets like a CPU and they have a heatsink. I imagine the power supply and main boards will be behind it and will need removing before you can gain access. The price of a new chip is about £130ish depending on the model.

This reminds me of one of my teachers changed their background to starship enterprise because of a failing DLP chip.
