Quick question on Smart 4065 interactive capabilities

For some reason my google searches are failing me. I was wondering if Smart interactive displays (or the Smart 4065 specifically, as I probably can't afford anything bigger..) can write over external (non-windows, no drivers installed) sources. e.g. if I plugged in a DVD player, would the pen tools still work or would it just become a big TV?

The touch overlay uses USB connectivity to communicate with a laptop/desktop. This has been the case for every SMART Board and non-SMART IWB I've encountered. I looked at the specs for the 4065 and it has indeed got a USB cable for touch- which means it won't work as you intend.

 

I'd be very surprised if you could find something with that functionality. If you do need it, could you use a PC with a physical DVD reader and SMART Ink installed? That should allow you to write over the playing DVD (in theory).

I'm pretty sure the CleverTouch Plus does this, and when you think about it there's no real reason it should be different to interactive projectors which can write over any surface - you don't need drivers to write over the top of the image being displayed as the display can take care of that on its own (if it's designed with firmware capable). You don't *need* a USB connection to draw over the display, you just need one to interact with Windows.

 

We're as heavily Windows-based as other schools, but the idea of *having* to boot up a Windows PC to use the interactively seems a little arcane to me, and I was hopeful that wouldn't be the case.
