Reset BIOS password

Afternoon guys,

 

Got an issue where an old technician built some machines and password protected the bios.

 

I need to rebuild the machines but unable to remove the bios password, i've tried:

 

- Moving the jumper pins, resetting bios settings then moving them back to original position

- and removing the battery for 20 minutes.

 

Non of the above have reset the password.

 

How would you do it without using tools e.g. software?

American Megatrends boards by any chance? If so I don't think you can.

There used to be utility called killcmos that'd reset the average bios to defaults. Not sure if it's still available.

Some HP's even though they may prompt you for password do not need for Network/PXE boot.

I'd say 20 minutes isn't long enough. Try leaving one over night without the battery and make sure it isn't plugged in. Discharge any power by pressing the power button while unplugged. You need to make sure there is no power at all throughout the board, otherwise it won't work.

Have you moved the BIOS reset jumper across then back to the original position without turning the PC on as that is usually what clears it, sounds like you've switched it on after moving it which seems to have entered some form of BIOS maintenance mode rather than resetting everything

 

It might help if you looked on the motherboard and posted the model number

Thanks so much for the response guys - Finally it reset overnight. Extremely awkward but hopefully I won't encounter this issue often. I'll be sure to post PC specs and models next time I have an issue, apologies for the lack of info.
