Hi All,

 

 

Please is there a way of pushing apps from meraki to IPads silently without the user getting to click install or put password?

 

 

secondly how can one prevent student from locking the IPads with their own password?

You will need the subscription tier of Meraki to accomplish this, unfortunately the free tier doesn't allow this.

 

As for stopping the passcode behaviour you will need to make sure you have set restrictions but not sure on Meraki how far this goes (I use Profile Manager)

When did you sign up to Meraki? We're on the 100 device limited free tier (signed up maybe 4 years ago?) and can push apps out silently.

 

They made this so much easier with iOS 10. Basically you need to order enough licenses for the app through Apple's VPP portal, link your VPP account to your Meraki account, refresh it's license count in the Meraki control panel, and then assign apps to devices and tick the 'Use VPP license' box.

 

I could be wrong, but the iOS devices may need to be supervised using Apple Configurator 2 for this to work, I've not tried it without but thats the way we do it for remote worker iPhones and classroom iPads.

 

This should push the apps to the iPads as soon as they're awake and check into Meraki.

You will have to add your ipad serial numbers into DEP, make sure that all your tokens are setup and you sign upto apple school manager aswell.

 

You will have to find out where you bought your ipads and ask if they are and apple reseller as they will add them into dep for you.

 

Once that is done you will have to make sure that meraki is setup with account that is required and your serial numbers are in.

 

When you add an app you go through apple school manager to get into the volume purchasing program to buy download or buy an app, then add it into meraki and assign it to a tag with a tick box which then goes of you app licenses.

Lots of confusion going round with regards to Meraki at the moment. The free and paid versions have exactly the same feature set. Only difference is on the paid one you can have more than 100 devices and have access to 24/7 support. The legacy version of Meraki has limited features but supports an unlimited number of devices. This ended last year and support for Legacy Meraki has finished. I use the free one with less than 100 devices and I am able to take advantage of device based distribution and all of the iOS 9.3 restrictions. Edited November 23, 2016 by tmoon-mint

I have bought apps, downloaded the token, enabled my vpp account,created a tag,deployed the app but it keeps coming up with error of validation

Step by step here is what I did to set it up. Sounds like you're almost there.

 

1. Purchase the apps I want from the VPP store. Even free ones.

2. Upload the managed distribution token to Meraki.

3. Pushed out the apps making sure to tick the box to use device assignment (Screenshot attached)

 

 

Just a quick thought, are your devices supervised? If not i'm not sure device assignment works.

I have found some issues with Meraki not working right just because i have not tagged them in DEP. Sounds wierd but thats one thing i did when i had issues with DEP and pushing applications.
