Recommendations for a New Room

We've a nice 27 meter by 10 meter room that we've been asked to put some AV kit into.

In the past, normally we would just put up a Promethean IWB with a XE-40 projector but things have changed.

 

Our main requirement is to ensure the image can be seen in daylight as there is no plans on installing any blinds on the 4 double windows.

 

What would you suggest? A nice 65/70 inch screen, or a traditional IWB with very bright UST projector.

 

Oh the room will be used for table tennis so trying to ensure if we go down a projector route that it is as close to the wall as possible to save "knock" damage.

Depends on your budget really. Room is massive so a 65" / 70" screen might look small compared to your old IWB that was prob what 78"?

 

If you are looking at a UST projector you will probably be looking at max 3500ansi brightness, which may start to struggle after a couple of years use with the ambient light.

My Advice would be to get a few touchscreen brands in for demo and see which one works the best for you.

Please spend £1000s on kit, btw we're not doing to spend £100s on blinds.

 

My question is: Do you really need a touchscreen? Never really saw the advantage of them.

We had similar scenario but after talking to the staff they decided that they didn't need touch screen so we just purchased a large TV for the room instead which was used with a laptop. Seemed to work fine and we save alot more money with it not being interactive.

Oh personally I'd say we wouldn't need a touch screen, however I asked for confirmation before I started going out looking and they want what ever we put in there to be interactive, so thats either a normal IWB or a panel really (yes I could just use an interactive projector but would still need something for it to project on to)

Thank you for some the suggestions.

We're currently deciding between a 75" or a 84" ActivPanel (depending how much cash we find down a sofa) as it keeps the software standardised thoughout the site and being less susceptible to stray ping pong balls knocking it out of alignment.

I do believe that Promethean have the thinnest glass of the touchscreen manufacturers, as well as a plastic back panel, rather than metal, so if you have concerns over damage, check the MoHS rating and thickness of the glass before deciding on brand loyalty. it really would benefit you to invite all the manufacturers and have a show-down.

Thank you for your concern, however I am aware of the MoHS rating as it is clearly displayed in the ActivPanel information and compatibility between existing boards was slightly higher on my list than a plastic backing to the panel.

 

As for inviting all the manufacturers and having a "show-down", I don't think I would have the time for that. My original post was to find out what type of system fellow EG members would recommend, as it provided a counterbalance to our platform agnostic AV company.

 

That both @BenQ_Adrian and @Clevertouch_Rob both suggested a touchscreen based on the provided information confirmed that it was route to go down.

Any Large Format Display (LFD) or interactive LFD will be a much better return on investment, and probably have lower overall cost of ownership than a projector/whiteboard combo. It is a good choice.
