Classic Shell Start Menu Alternative

Hi,

 

I've been using Classic Shell for our Start Menu and I really like it but it is just becoming too unreliable with the constant freezing of explorer.

 

What are people using if not the Classic Shell?

 

Any further ideas as to why this crashes? I've tried the suggested fixes in the Classic Shell thread.

Have you just got the classic shell start menu installed, or all of classic shell (including the explorer replacement)?

Yes I have all of Classic Shell. Should I not?

We only have the start menu installed and haven't had one issue yet on the 200+ W10 devices with opening explorer.

Same here, I'd test with just the start menu installed.

+1 for only having the start menu installed. If you want to play with the look and feel of Windows 10 explorer then use the Ultimate Windows Tweaker tool instead

Try extracting the exe for classic shell, if there is separate MSI's you can use the uninstall parameter to do this.

Thanks, this is what I managed to do in the end. I've installed just the start menu in one classroom and I will see how it goes in there now. I'll let you know how I get on.

Just thought I would update. In the two weeks that have passed I have been told of about 5 crashes. Whether they are the same issue or unrelated I don't know, but it is certainly better than the half dozen or so everyday I was getting before.
