Geoff Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 As noted in the Guardian. You can play completely free as long as you like. https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2016/nov/15/eve-online-goes-free-to-play Here are the trailers. Download the client and sign up here: https://community.eveonline.com/support/download/ The best newbie advice I can give is to check out the Eve Uni Wiki New Player guide though. Xellpnz Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 Been playing for a few days, not to shabby. Nut the limits on what you can learn in the skill trees, and what equipment you can buy/pickup is annoying. Going to see how far i can get before i tear my hair out
Arreks Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 It took me about 48 hours to actually get access to my account but it's a good excuse to get back into it. New character sheet is awful, though! May need to get the Edugeek channel going again.
Garacesh Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 (edited) Servers were overloaded two days ago, but from what I've gathered in Militia chat, everything seems stable now. I should probably try and get back into my old account, it's over a decade old now! Created in 2004.. But I wouldn't know where to begin. Plus, I think at first, my brother was paying my subs lol. I doubt I'd have much of value, but I was part of Quam Singulari, who were a pretty huge corp back in the day. I'm enjoying Faction Warfare at the moment, I welcome anyone who wants in to apply to Kill Them With Kindness, BRAVE's FW corp. (Bonus points, the Caldari Militia is actually pretty active, and it's easy enough to jump in with other corps. I've gone fleeting with BLOC a few times.) Edited November 18, 2016 by Garacesh
Geoff Posted November 18, 2016 Author Posted November 18, 2016 (edited) I resurrected my old account and bought the subs for a month myself. If you want to grab me in-game my pilot name is 'Llisander'. I'm dinking about in high-sec based out of Jel at the moment although I bob into low-sec and w-space sometimes. I also have my own corp called 'Citisys' (entirely for tax reasons, so I'm not too attached to it). If you want to fleet up and do stuff I'm in. I also know what I'm doing to a medium degree, so any questions just ask away. Oh I can loan some isk for a better ship too if you are stuck (but honestly just ask in Jita Local). pete Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 ^ So if you've an old-school account, can you resurrect it under the free-to-play inititative and what restrictions apply?
Garacesh Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 (edited) ^ So if you've an old-school account, can you resurrect it under the free-to-play inititative and what restrictions apply? Yes. IIRC, any Omega clone whose subscription lapses reverts to Alpha status. Alpha restrictions will apply, but you do not lose skill points or injected skills, you just lose access to any skills not trainable by Alpha accounts (and train new skills at 0.5 speed). This includes piloting ships higher than Cruiser, piloting ships that aren't your race, or using restricted modules like cloaking devices. Edited November 18, 2016 by Garacesh
pete Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 ^ So T1 Cruisers and below? I assume you can fit T2 modules?
Garacesh Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 (edited) Some. Not most. A full list of skills trainable by Alpha accounts is at the bottom of this page. Edited November 18, 2016 by Garacesh
pete Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 Hmm, a cheap-fitted low-sec rifter/merlin* using named modules is doable, but really benefits from max fitting skills which aren't available as an Alpha. *or whatever's the current flavour-of-the-month on SHC.
Garacesh Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 Rifters suffered a lot. They didn't really get nerfed, just power creeped out of relevance. They're still good for cheap tackle though.
Arreks Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 Saw this really cool image that I've somehow never seen which may be useful for new players
Garacesh Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 Saw this really cool image that I've somehow never seen which may be useful for new players There really is something for everyone in EVE.
DJ-1701 Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 There really is something for everyone in EVE. Even the Amish?
Garacesh Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 A great little guide to Frigates fresh off the BRAVE propaganda wagon.
Garacesh Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 EVE-Offline :: EVE-Online Status monitor EVE is currently sat at 45k players! Doesn't sound like a lot, but when you consider that's 45k players all sharing the same server, it's a nice statistic.
localzuk Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 Those are near their old numbers when I used to play proper. Nice to see it happening.
Arreks Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 It reached 50 thousand or so when I was playing yesterday, not bad!
Garacesh Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 Aye, I think it was a peak of 52k yesterday. This is good news! Some of this will almost certainly be multiboxing/alting, but either way it's definitely an improvement from the 20-25k on before Alpha Clones were a thing.
Geoff Posted November 21, 2016 Author Posted November 21, 2016 They excluded multiboxing from the stats (IP limit) a while back.
