Mark182 Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 We have just had our hosted Moodle upgraded to 2.9.4, currently all our users are 'standalone' users as you can see from the attachment. As it stand all the users in Moodle have the same usernames as they do in AD. I have been following the article I am guessing I'll need to install ADFS as the Moodle isn't hosted on site and have another public IP address. We want it so it doesn't duplicate users just overwrites them with the AD accounts (even though they have the same username) this way we can reset their Moodle password and it'll do this in Moodle too. Just wanted to know if anyone had a similar scenario to ours and come across any issues?
nadeem Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 If you authenticate using LDAP then's no need to install anything else, you already have the plugin installed it just needs some configuring - just test the user to make sure it can read [and write if you want - I'd recommend against this] your AD. Then check the field mappings from AD to the Moodle profile (and you can set these to update information both ways if you want). Lastly for each account the profile will have an authentication method set against it - change these away from manual to LDAP and hey presto! (Obviously check on a few first before doing this en-masse). Of possible interest to others you can also authenticate against Office365 1
3s-gtech Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 If Moodle's not on site LDAP's no good unless your AD can be contacted externally (which isn't ideal). We switched our Moodle to LDAP authentication without issue, but our Moodle server is on-site. ADFS/O365 would probably be your best bet. 1
