I don't want to be fussy but

 

why are some military ranks there and some missing

e.g. colonel, wing Commander are there

general , admiral are not

I used to work at Lloyds of London (the insurance market) and had to code that lot into a module for one of their systems for recording the Names (the people who provide the money to underwrite the policies). This was on mainframe, long before the days of drop-down boxes, etc

 

I also wrote the module that worked out initials for each Name. I used the existing paper register to get a list of full names. Some of them were ridiculously long... especially the arabs.

I had to code a very similar list for use at Lloyd's of London for their membership database.

 

The "Names", as they are known, are the very wealthy people from all over the world who make up the Syndicates. They effectively gamble their money on insurance risks of big things like shops and satellites. What risks their money get placed on is decided by the Underwriter in charge of their Syndicate.

Mine had the title letters B.. B.... and C...

 

Not a gender, but what do they expect when they add things like this to the registration process?
