Hi all,

After the calamity that was last census, I've decided to sort out an admin dept problem once and for all.... get the school to actually collect data that relates to the MIS system.

Are there any SIMS.net schools out there I can sneak a look at their pupil admission form before I go on -- Primaries even better.

Big cheers in advance ;)

Hiya

If you'd like to PM me your email then I'll send you the admission form from our LA. I can't post it here because it lives behind a password protected section of our website. We (SIMS Team) work with the Admissions team to make sure it matches SIMS/ONE as best it can while still being useful for the school.

We have gone paperless with our admissions and basically recreated the entire sims record into an online form that parents fill in at enrolment time, we then convert all the data into a custom CTF file and import all the data in one go, then the office staff just fill in the blanks that can't be done with the CTF. This year was our first full cohort on online enrolment, was a couple of teaching issues but on the whole it worked very well.

Very interesting post would you be prepared to give further formation on how you converted this from online information to ctf to meet sims criteria as I am looking for a way of using online admission forms. Any assistance would be appreciated

Sims has an advanced Admissions module that takes a web input. Are you using that? It's an extra optional module that allows you to track the whole process including linking to assessments if required.

No I just recreated a new one from scratch.

Imagine the Sims cr@p that would be generated with online forms ! Oh my!

True, but cr@p that SIMS understands and has a place for. Never used it myself, but I've heard some do successfully.

Ditto, ditto, ditto.

It passes through a review form for admin to check (which by all accounts wasn't too successful) before I convert to CTF, but definitely got most of the data in.

The review form displays the content that came from ATF alongside the content the parents gave us, then we can accept or decline the changes to each piece of data before moving onto the next record.

I'm interested in this. The issue that's stopped us is data protection - what do you use to authenticate parents and where do you store the data?

Do you mean the R & A add on. I have contacted Capita who said this is currently only available to independent schools but they are going to look to see if we can get it. Is this what you mean?
