I tried it out the other day and it's really pretty impressive stuff! I played the Battlezone game and the feeling of being in the game is amazing especially when you realise you can look up/down and right behind you. Well worth a go if you get a chance.

 

Has anyone else had a shot and/or bought one?

Pewdiepie has used all of them and he said the ps4 one is more accessible / priced better. It's not as good, but considering the price difference, it's very good.

My brother has the PS VR, I have the Rift. I have to say, PS VR is a seriously impressive bit of kit. It's comfortable, easy to adjust, manages to fit over my glasses (something the Rift doesn't quite manage) and is incredibly immersive, especially paired with the move controllers. Sure, the resolution isn't as high as the Rift but for most games, it isn't really noticeable. The games are also great, I think my favourite so far are the free ones inside Playroom VR that are designed for interaction with other people in the room playing using the TV.

 

The one thing I will say is not so great is that I struggled to get it in the "sweet spot" where the images are clearest. Could just be my eyesight or my glasses but it is something that takes a bit of adjustment. It's usable, anyway!

My mate has a PS VR and he brought it round to my house to mess about with. I was very impressed. I paticlarly liked Eve Valkrye, VR is perfect for that sort of thing.

 

If you can't quite get the image right just by fiddling with the headset adjustments then have a look at the options menu. Probably the eye distance and brightness are the most important ones to fiddle with.

Actually, one of my friends has the HTC Vive so I've tried a couple of VR headsets for comparison. My take on it is that, far from being the budget version, Playstation VR is actually superior to the Vive in terms of the headset. The Vive headset feels really heavy, the straps are uncomfortable and the lenses are prone to fogging up. The Sony headset on the other hand is much better designed and way more comfortable IMO. The thing that I really hated about the Vive is that when scanning across VR scenes you can clearly see what looks like a pixel matrix grid over the image which I found really spoiled the visual experience. I think they call it the screen door effect. It's still present on the Sony headset but to a much smaller degree.

It's odd because looking at the system specs and price it would lead you to believe that the Vive is massively superior to PSVR. True, the Vive does have a slightly wider field of view and the pixel count is higher but to me this didn't result in a noticeably sharper image despite the on paper advantage. However, to me these are minor details given the overall much cleaner image on the Sony headset. It's night and day better than the Vive IMO.

 

Having slated the Vive for it's headset options and design I would say that the motion controllers and the headset tracking work brilliantly though. It uses 2 light senors at separate corners of a room so is much more able to track you in 3D whereas Sony uses a single camera so if you started spinning around it could quite easily lose track of you. Unfortunately I never got a chance to try out the PS Move motion controllers though I suspect they won't be on a par to the Vive due to also relying on a single camera. The HTC controllers really are pretty awesome overall especially when you're playing games like VR Minigolf/clay pigeon shooting/etc.

 

I'm pretty tempted to pick up the PSVR but the cost isn't as cheap as it first appears. You need the headset, a PS VR Camera and the move motion controllers. Then you'll be wanting a couple of games so you're pretty much looking in the region of £500-600, not including the cost of a PS4, to get started. Also, I suspect you'll really be wanting a new PS4 Pro going forward to make the most of VR! It's slightly crazy money just to play a few games really!

 

Still, in my opinion, this is the most exciting gaming innovation I've experienced in decades. Going back to sitting in front of a TV doesn't really compare once you've experienced VR gaming.

 

I'm keen to see what developers bring to the table over the coming years........

I got the PS VR last weekend, got most the games available. I cannot play the scary games when i'm in the house by my self. Its too terrifying. 'Here they lie' had my heart pounding. (Its also the only game so far that gives me motion sickness). I use to see the videos on youtube with people screaming and think why, its only a game. I just cannot believe how immersive the VR is, you really do have to try it out to understand.

 

Cannot wait for Resident Evil 7 in January, there is an extremely small demo of it called Kitchen for free on the PS Store and it's a great experience.

I bought one the day after it came out, along with Eve Valkyrie and VR Worlds. I must say I was blown away as I didn't except it to be as good as it is, still impressed now even though i've had a it a few weeks. Saying that though I have a couple of issues, firstly Motion sickness, it becomes unbearable after about 20-30mins of use especially with games like Eve Valkyrie. Secondly, the headset looses track and needs re-centring a lot more than I would like. I would highly recommend it, but not if your prone to motion sickness (I'm thinking of selling mine, even though I don't want to as it doesn't seam to be getting any better).

The wow does wear off, but its only an issue when the content runs dry. I've not used my VR for about a month, but thats only because i'm waiting for more games. I know 'I expect you to die' is working on new content (favourite game) and Paranormal Activity keep hinting its coming to PSVR.

Agreed the wow effect does wear off, as it does for most things!

 

I only really use my Rift now when showing my friends and they are always blown away by it, i do play the occasional game like Robo Recall but i normally run out of enegy after 30mins!

It's a good deal but bear in mind that you still really need a couple of ps move controllers at an extra £60.

 

Plus the copy of far point doesn't have the gun add on which I think is kind of essential for it really and you can't currently buy it standalone at the moment.
