BT Email through client

Hi all,

 

We have a someone working with the school in a advisory capacity. She gets her BT emails through outlook which are setup with the btinternet server settings. Her emails keep erroring out, I have explained its because of the school internet unable to access the BT email servers with those settings. But I have been asked to find a way around it, though I know removing the settings when shes in school and putting them back in when she leaves will not be an option, mainly as its alot of hassle for me.

 

If I am being simple and missing something obvious, please let me know. It's more than possible.

 

Any advice would be appreciated.

Can't she just use the BT Email via a browser during the time she is on site

I'd suggest what @network41 has suggested too, but if that's not acceptable, it'd probably involve giving the laptop a static IP, and creating a rule on your firewall for her IP address to allow it to connect... but once people know it's possible to have personal emails set up on Outlook, more people may request it... I'd ask for the request in writing, stating that it will reduce the security of the network blah blah blah, just to cover your own back...

You will need to open up your firewall to allow connections to either POP/IMAP and SMTP for BT. Details are here: Settings for outgoing and incoming BT email servers? | BT but check what settings are in the client. The web page one would be easiest option but personally if they are a guest as such to your network their device should either be on your Guest VLAN or they should use some form of mobile i.e. 4G connectivity bypassing your network.

You got the specific error message she is getting? Also you should be able to filter on the firewall for any denys to the BT Servers.
