jedmondson Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 I have started to build an engineers hut at around the tinkers smeltery to stop creeper damage. Needs lights , a roof and windows put in.
Garacesh Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 We have a ts server at ts.edugeek.net Which nobody is ever on, and hasn't updated the room names to reflect the new server
localzuk Posted October 19, 2016 Author Posted October 19, 2016 Which nobody is ever on, and hasn't updated the room names to reflect the new server Yeah yeah, I'll do it this weekend... lol
Geoff Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 I have fenced off and lit up the nether portal in the overworld. I have also built a stone brick room in the nether around the portal there. It has an iron door and rubbish stone pressure plates (please replace with dark steel when possible). So you can safely travel to and from the nether without disaster striking. Be aware that blazes like to spawn directly outside the nether portal, so bring a bow and arrows.

I love how people are planning stuff out like "Right, we need to get $fancynon-vanillamaterial and make $stuff, and I have a power grid set up and.. Meanwhile I'm sat here like "I made an iron sword last night.."

Meanwhile I'm sat here like "I made an iron sword last night.." Iron? Pfft, my stone sword works great! BTW, i took some bronze from the smeltery last night to make a hammer, durable as anything! How do I replace the bronze I used and is there any ore doubling with a smeltery?
localzuk Posted October 20, 2016 Author Posted October 20, 2016 Don't worry about replacing the ore. I'm just chucking all my ore in the storage there, so have at it.
Geoff Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 8 (smelter doubles ore) bronze = 1 tin ore + 3 copper ore. Did no one else play Dwarf Fortress? You should have what minerals, metals and composites are etched into your mind if you did.

localzuk Posted October 20, 2016 Author Posted October 20, 2016 Does that work if you run the ores through a sag mill first? quadruple your original ore? No, but there's a way in Mekanism to get 5x your output.
Garacesh Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Does that work if you run the ores through a sag mill first? quadruple your original ore? I doubt it, as a sag mill doesn't produce an actual ore, does it? The Smelter takes 1 ore and makes 2 ingots worth of molten $substance. The sag mill makes.. dust.. is it? However (depending on what mods you have) it may work out better to use a sag mill and some other variety of bar-maker, if you have a way to generate power. That way, you don't need lava. On the old (old) server, I did have a smeltery, but most of my ores went through a Macerator then a redstone furnace, and I used solar, wind, and a charcoal farm + generator to make power.. Dunno what mods are available though.
bald_pig Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 So you can't put dust directly into a smelter? gotcha. I can't see any benefit over an alloy smelter at the moment!
Garacesh Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 So you can't put dust directly into a smelter? gotcha. I can't see any benefit over an alloy smelter at the moment! Given the way a lot of mods are inter-compatible, I'd suspect you can. But I'd also suspect it will only yield one bar worth. However. Aren't we s'posed to be doing an old Victorian-era theme? So don't go overboard with how you generate your power
localzuk Posted October 20, 2016 Author Posted October 20, 2016 So you can't put dust directly into a smelter? gotcha. I can't see any benefit over an alloy smelter at the moment! You can, but its worth 1 ingot. There's no benefit of the alloy smelter for normal ingots (although, it can go pretty quickly with octadic capacitor upgrade), but it is necessary for alloys. Its useful for automating things too. In this pack though, Mekanism is more powerful for ores. Given the way a lot of mods are inter-compatible, I'd suspect you can. But I'd also suspect it will only yield one bar worth. However. Aren't we s'posed to be doing an old Victorian-era theme? So don't go overboard with how you generate your power Indeed. Steampunk though! So, tech can be fit in nicely, if designed well. Though at first we'll take a while to get some proper buildings in.

Garacesh Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 I would imagine a large coal plant would look good. we could even make it run on coal (charcoal)! 100% on board for building a [hidden] charcoal farm to power a coal plant in order to supply power to our little village Question: How do villagers react if you knock down all the houses and build new ones? I assume, if we're going to hang out where we are, that we'll be rebuilding houses.

I assume, if we're going to hang out where we are, that we'll be rebuilding houses. IIRC, villagers are dependent on the number of doors, not structures. so as long as our houses have doors, they should be alright I'm not sure how they handle doors from mods though... Garacesh Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Might be worth making an "inn" of vanilla minecraft doors then. It might be worth keeping them around if any of them have decent trades. Of course, their constant HHRRRRMMMMMM and barging into our homes (I'm upgrading to an iron door asap ) might just annoy us to the point that someone's sword 'slips'...

Yes that's correct. There is a farming method for emerald that involves villagers, many wooden doors, conveyor belts and a smeltery.

Don't need to do such murderous things! You can just shove a load in a room with a vacuum chest/hoppers etc... and they drop emeralds over time. So, pack em in like sardines!
bald_pig Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Judging by CJ's house, someone has practiced packing mobs into rooms

Geoff Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 (edited) I am trapped in the nether portal as someone blocked the overworld side. Infact it looks like the connection jumped to another portal as I don't recognise the area. Edited October 20, 2016 by Geoff
jedmondson Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Same thing happened to me. I just got all mystic back. Boo got glow stone and quartz on me.
