localzuk Posted October 18, 2016 Author Posted October 18, 2016 WAILA has ruined you. We used to manage just fine back in 1.6.4 days without it. Indeed! In my day we just hacked at it with whatever we could and hoped for the best!
Geoff Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Other than the broad goal for the server group build. Does anyone actually have any solid ideas / plans? I was thinking of taking the Victorian buildings idea and going as steampunk as I could with it. Possibly with a bit of magic thrown in (where I can use magic + machinery in a steampunk kinda way).
localzuk Posted October 18, 2016 Author Posted October 18, 2016 I wanted for us to build a grand train station, and then have branches out to distant places like quarries, mines, etc... Each being built as a proper build, not just a box on the ground. So, there'd be a "control building", mineshaft with supports etc... and a cart system for hauling stuff out.
Geoff Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Sounds like we need a map with areas zoned for different builds. Then let people pick what they want to work on?

Currently I've started mining just past the 'volcano', just for some resources but I can easily 'brick up' the entrance with smooth stone to conceal it if we get a proper quarry going. Maybe different towns with different themes.. One that's 'Traditional' (steam power, etc), one that's more magical (Dresden-esque), etc
Geoff Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Presume the rail station is going to be the spawn area base if you want to go down that route?
localzuk Posted October 18, 2016 Author Posted October 18, 2016 I think about it like a city such as London - there's different architecture and the like in every city. In places like Paris there's "quarters" which sort of stick to a similar theme. We could do it like that, with something like parks in between etc...? 1
Sephiroth Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 ...a city such as London ... We could do it like that... I guess this server will be around for a while then!

Geoff Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 I casted a nether portal near the village smeltery. It's just far enough away that the noise wont be annoying. However my typical minecraft misfortune applies. The nether side is on a one block thick floating netherrack island in the middle of a cavern suspended over lava. One ghast fireball and you are screwed.
ADMaster Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 I've got Mekanism going in the building next to the smeltry powered by wind. Its far enough along to make jet packs, that should make @Geoff 's nether island easier to manage.
Geoff Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 (edited) If someone wants to go in there and replace the island with stone blocks then you've got a better chance. I'll have a crack at it tonight if no one else wants to risk it. Also the portal in the overworld needs fencing off. I'm not expecting a pigman invasion due to the nature of the netherrack island however it's better to be safe. I also found out why I was getting damaged mining. I used a wooden tool rod for my tinkers pickaxe. This has the affix 'splinters' which causes random occasional damage when used. Very funny. I have replaced it with bronze which seemed the best early game tool rod. Edited October 19, 2016 by Geoff
bald_pig Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Has someone found a cicada type mod in this pack yet? I thought I heard something when i passed Gara's house last night...

Is there an advantage to using Tinkers pickaxes over the normal two-sticks-and-three-$Material variant? I'm assuming you can make different rods for higher durability? I'm assuming you can make different rods for higher durability? You can get different durability, you can augment the pickaxe with stuff, and you can repair them easily too.
bald_pig Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Or you can make a hammer that mines a 3x3 area!
localzuk Posted October 19, 2016 Author Posted October 19, 2016 You can also add things like repair, speed boosts etc... to the tools in Tinkers.
Geoff Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 And they 'level up' and get better as a result. e.g. my iron tinkers pick has levelled up to the point where it can mine anything a diamond pick can (apart from obsidian as it runs out of durability before the mining of the block completes).
ADMaster Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 What is a good range weapon? The crossbow is not in this pack.
Geoff Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Vanilla bow not good enough? What about an ic2 mining laser? - - - Updated - - - BTW @localzuk any dynamap?
Sephiroth Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 I downloaded last night but didn't join... Forgive a n00b question, but how do you install client-side mods? I've got the waila mod but now have no idea how to get it to work.
localzuk Posted October 19, 2016 Author Posted October 19, 2016 BTW @localzuk any dynamap? Don't think so, sorry. Its a lag causing beast and uses up far too much space. If we want to share maps, we'll have to mount maps on the wall in a building. I downloaded last night but didn't join... Forgive a n00b question, but how do you install client-side mods? Garacesh Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 I'm on board with the idea of 'manually' making maps, given the time period we're going for.
