Internet Explorer and iplayer

BBC iplayer will not work with IE - users either get a black screen or a message about flash (which is up to date)

 

Can anyone advise?

Tried here and working with SWGfL, latest flash version (23.0.0.162) reported by system.

 

Is Flash working on other websites? Such as: Adobe - Flash Player

 

If not, have you tried either of the suggestions here?

iPlayer gives a black screen but other sites such as this one: Two black rhino babies bring hope to endangered species - CBBC Newsround have the "couldn't load plugin" message.

Flash isn't working on the flash player site either - but then it wouldn't would it as I am still using the browser that couldnt load the plugin

If it's not working on other sites, I've had to use the Uninstallation tool on Windows 7 https://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/support/uninstall_flash_player.exe to remove flash, reboot and reinstall.

 

Of course, this wouldn't work on Windows 8 and above as Flash should be a Windows update.

Are you using Google Chrome?

 

Try deleting the PepperFlash folder which is located in Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\PepperFlash

 

That'll fix the 'couldn't load plugin' and/or black screen.

Thanks - but no, this is iE. Also, any solution has got to be applicable to the whole network

Flash Player Removal tool can be run silently, I include it as a matter of course now when updating Flash player. Try it on one, if it works, shout and I'll dig out my install script.

It might well be... have you tried running the Flash uninstaller on one machine and then reinstalling?

 

My script for flash upgrades is as below. I'm running it through SCCM, and using the file %Windir%\System32\Macromed\Flash\FlashUtil32_22_0_0_210_ActiveX.exe as my detection method, you could always put an "IF FILE EXISTS GOTO END" line in to run it as a startup script.

 

uninstall_flash_player.exe -uninstall -force

 

install_flash_player_22_active_x.exe -install

 

install_flash_player_22_plugin.exe -install

 

copy mms.cfg %windir%\System32\Macromed\Flash /y

Argh Flash. The sooner everything goes HTML5 and it can die, the better.

We were getting Flash 20 was blocked but could use the run this time for it to work.

Deployed MSI for flash 23 and everything still working here.

One of the staff did actually ask me that question, but of course the response was yes we do as it is renewed every year.
