button_ripple Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 We are planning to implement Vista to our school in the next year(ish). What we would like to know is how vista will work with our roaming profiles and also what benefits we will lose/gain from using windows server 2003 and what we will lose/gain with 2008. If anyone can fill me in this would be great!! (we will be using vista business, we have a network running at 100 mbps (including the servers - no money for a gbit switch a min.) and the servers are almost brand new, but we don't mind purchasing another for 2008)

srochford Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 I'd agree with the others - unless you have a compelling reason to commit suicide go with Vista then I'd stick with XP. If you do need to make the change then you need to be aware that profiles are rather different and don't roam easily between Vista and XP - so if you have (say) a room of XP and a room of Vista the profiles won't move smoothly between them. There's a word document on the MS web site which gives details of what happens and how it works. Good luck :-) 1

john Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Basically to save reading, XP and Vista profiles are not compatible you get a %profilename%.V2 for Vista ones on the system, I know as I have both
