Default media player

Any of you using Media player as the default player in 10? We want to set it as the default as groove is pap. We use VLC as well but our staff want media player as the default for mp3s etc.

 

You used to be able to do this with GPOs but that stopped at MP9 I think?

You can still do it via GPO - but you need to export an XML file from a reference Windows 10 PC (set up the way you want it) in order to do it.

Ahh that rings a bell, bit of a kak handed way of doing it, but thats the Windows 10 way!

Yep - surprised me when I looked into it!

No other way apart from doing it as a xml, when sys your machine sysprep and install for the first time it doesn't keep your configuration hat you set before hand.

 

GPO using xml file is the way forward unless you want to go round one by one and set it manually for each staff user

The "Windows 10 way" applied to Windows 8 and 8.1 too.

Recently done this for all the built in Win 10 apps such as, pdf's should open adobe reader not MS reader etc.
