JoeWallace Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 Hello all, We've upgraded to Office 2016 over the summer, and last week I had a user come to me with an issue with ECDL on the prerequisite test, that comes up once the student is logged in. Everything passed apart from Office which had an Error. I rang ECDL and confirmed it is a compatibility issue with ECDL and Office 2016, and only Office 2013 and older would work. We're reluctant to roll back to Office 2013. Has anybody had this issue or know of a workaround? Thanks in advance, JW
Achandler Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 It works with Office 2016, we have tested it. However, for the sake of there being any issues or any questions being asked about the actual test result we rolled back one room to Office 2013. We didn't want there to be any chance of suspicion of the results
FN-GM Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 Its a massive pain in the rear for us. I have not upgraded 2 IT rooms because of this. Can't get it working with 16 at all. The BCS don't seem to be bothered about getting it sorted
JoeWallace Posted October 4, 2016 Author Posted October 4, 2016 How did you get it to work alongside Office 2016?
ChrisC Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 I contacted BCS regarding this after a chat with a very concerned Head of ICT and they confirmed that they're looking to have 2016 supported by the end of the year (End of 2016, not the academic year). At first I was stonewalled with "we will let everyone know when it's ready". Chris
Linfit Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 It won't work for us, and it is a massive PITA for us - we had to roll back one of our IT suites so that the teacher can actually start teaching the course. I spoke to our BCS regional rep who said they are going to support 2016 and it should be available "some time in October". That's too late for us - can't hold off starting the course for 8 weeks. Of course, once they start, we can't shift partway through, so we are stuck with 2013 for this years cohort. that's putting aside issues with getting the tests working reliably of course. A more ironically named organisation I have not come across for a long time: they know **** about computers.

mullet_man Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 Am just running into this issue, we need to run some ECDL tests over the half term and my 3 IT rooms all now have Windows 10 and Office 2016. @FN-GM I remember you saying they'd told you September and I assumed it would be sorted. Someone from BCS told us that IT can just easily change it back to Office 2013, like it's a click of a button and flash it's sorted. Can Office 2013 and Office 2016 be installed side by side?
forkies Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 We have been sent an email with a new URL which has 2016 support with plugin.

They did tell me that. They have now told me Octovber but I wouldn't count of it.
3s-gtech Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 Someone from BCS told us that IT can just easily change it back to Office 2013, like it's a click of a button and flash it's sorted. Can Office 2013 and Office 2016 be installed side by side? Of course - that's how IT works! It's not the customer's planning and software needs that matter, but the provider's lack of planning (around software that has been available for over twelve months) and needs! IME no, they don't sit happily side by side. You will find that one version will need to be re set-up every time you run the other. It's scruffy, if you can get it to work at all. Better to pressure the provider to stop being useless.
mullet_man Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 It's a joke it really is @3s-gtech I love giving Microsoft nearly 10k a year to stay on 3+ year old software. Getting conflicting information now, @forkies are you saying the email confirms Office 2016 support via a new plug in? Can you share the URL? A colleague was told just today support won't be available till December? Totally confused!
NotSoFast Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 We hit this and quickly set up 2013 and 2016 in one room, with shortcuts to 2013 hidden in a shared folder.
FN-GM Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 Just had an email to day Office 2016 will be support from Monday!
mullet_man Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 Just had an email to day Office 2016 will be support from Monday! Ohh that's interesting and could be great timing. Although a collegue was told yesterday by them it would be December. I'll see if someone in school has recieved the same email!
FN-GM Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 My message is in response to a complaint so you might not have the message.
mullet_man Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 I rang them myself and they said from Monday you can book exams for Office 2016. Saves me having to roll out 2013!
Liam Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 They told me September too. And then October and then December. I'll just check Monday as I really need to move to 2016 for 365 purposes.
forkies Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 Sorry for confusion, my email didn't confirm office 2016, however that a new plugin was required with the new link (see below) and when I go to the plugin system check page it has office 2016. Email was from BCS. https://ecdluk.psionline.com/
