Dos_Box Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 I just may grab myself one of these. It's a dual band 802.11 ac/b/g/n range extender with 2x ethernet ports (no speed listed) so looks like it will also act as a homeplug too. All in all, not a bad spec for a £19.99 device It's available on Sunday 2nd October and you can find out more here: SILVERCREST Wifi Range Extender - Sunday, 02.10. - Lidl UK
mikeprice Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 Hmm - thanks - might get one to - not sure it will work as a homeplug though
Gibbo Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Did anyone get one? Wondered what the quality is like. 1
Dos_Box Posted October 3, 2016 Author Posted October 3, 2016 Did anyone get one? Wondered what the quality is like. I'd forgotten about this! Will grab one today.
Dos_Box Posted October 4, 2016 Author Posted October 4, 2016 (edited) I picked one up this morning. Not unpacked it yet but it appears it's not powerline. The LAN ports are for either providing a hardwired point (via wifi) for a pc or as a wifi access point from your router (WAN and LAN ports). This is quite good as you can set an inadequet router in modem mode and hardwire the .ac extender to be your main wifi. So if you are after decent wifi speeds (it's dual band remember) from an old router this could be a cheap way to go Will take it home and do some range tests and let you all know Edited October 4, 2016 by Dos_Box
woodham Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 I got one to extend our signal to our back room as its always been poor in there and its made no difference to it at all despite the extender saying is has a good strong signal not convinced its doing anything so its back to lidl with it ;( 1
Dos_Box Posted October 11, 2016 Author Posted October 11, 2016 Well, I'm not impressed. It only connects at 54Mbps in .ac and so far cannot route traffic to the internet even though it is picking up DHCP from the router! You really do get what you pay for I guess!
