Microsoft Classroom and office 365 group creation

I'm wanting to reduce the availability of group creation down to global admin and a few others. Can do this with a bit of powershell wrangling. What I need to know is, if I turn off group creation, will it break the group creation in MS Classroom which uses the same group structure.

 

Anyone tested this before I dive in?

I have had group creation locked down for a while but noticed this week if a teacher tries to create a class without group creation permission Microsoft classroom will error out.

Bad times.

 

I'm trying to work out the areas of 365 behaviour that I can lock down. I'm slightly miffed that I can't even hide groups effectively "in the roadmap" apparently. This while environment could be brilliant. So many things overlooked for education though.

@swiftv Did removing the group creation permission using PowerShell cause any problems when using MS Classroom? I'm thinking about doing the same too but I'd love to hear what your findings were.

I do not know how this will work with classroom as we do not use it.
