Hi,

We have an RM broadband feed. Had a Smoothwall S8 box delivered in August. The S8 is still unplugged, gathering dust in our server room. Talking with RM and Smoothwall... it's like they've never heard of each other.... hugely frustrating.

RM don't want Smoothwall to replace their firewall on on our system so they are suggesting the S8 connects as an inline-bridge. RM will NAT a public IP to our network for the S8 and outbound traffic will flow through the S8 and then hit the RM FireWall.

I want the setup to be as pain free as possible... as anyone got their Smoothwall configured as above? Any issues? Set-up headaches?

We have have a setup like yourself but I can assure you that RM are usually quite good with Smoothwall, they actually put ours in when they did the build of the BSF network which they installed three years ago. Hope this gives you a bit of ammunition with RM.

We have an RM line with Smoothwall doing the filtering and firewall. I recall signing a change request to acknowledge that we were responsible for ensuring the filtering and firewall are working. If you are having trouble just speak to your account manager at RM, they are quite good at getting things like this resolved quickly.

I've got the same setup as @foofighterjim and it's working fine.

Did have a headache getting RM and Smoothwall to talk to each other, though once I got two engineers (one from RM, one from Smoothwall) talking to each other via email, things went through a lot quicker. If you explain what you want, and stick to it, you'll get there. As already stated, sometimes your line manager is the best person to talk to get it sorted.
