Active Directory : Name & Display Name column

Just a quick question as to what yours are used for?

 

Our students logon with their sims admissions number (4 digits) so we've also set their name field in AD to this four digit number, but I'm thinking of amending this to their real name - but should this be forename/lastname or lastname/forename?

 

Also for display name we set this to lastname/forename - but what do others do?

 

Are there pros and cons with any ways of utilizing these columns?

We put in real names (firstname, lastname), tutor group (dept) and admission number (employeeID) in as standard. Display name is the login, which for us is .[surname][initial]. Description is sometimes used for messages "check with PCS before re-enabling account", where students have ... err ... transgressed.
