kennysarmy Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 "ID","Title","Forename","Surname","Address","Post Code","Parental resp.","Linked learners","Potential issues" "8063","","G","Adams","","","No","[learner 8336] (no Moodle account found) (Without parental responsibility)","Missing Title Missing Post Code" I can't upload the original CSV file that this came from. BUT If I open it in EXCEL the line Missing Post Code goes missing! If I open it in CALC then the line Missing Post Code goes in the same cell as Missing Title but underneath. Can't work out what's going on. If I open in EXCEL and put , as the delimiter then the line Missing Post Code goes on the row underneath.
sted Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 theres no " at the end ofmissing title or the start of missing postcode nor is there a , so to me missing title missing postcode is one cell also is the line break in the file or just forum formatting as if theres a line break that will also break it
Steve21 Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 Well from the way it's pasted Missing Post Code is on a separate line, so that's how it should be in Excel. Linebreaks etc aren't allowed depending how the files encoded if you want it on the same line etc. The " have no context to it as it's based on the comma during the import. Steve
kennysarmy Posted September 9, 2016 Author Posted September 9, 2016 This is what the CSV looks like in notepad...
Steve21 Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 If you open it in Word, and turn on special characters what's it show? (The little icon next to AZ sort button normally) Steve
sted Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 missing titlemissing postcode is one cell there is no divider best bet is probably do a search and replace missing titlemissing postcode with missing title","missing postcode
kennysarmy Posted September 9, 2016 Author Posted September 9, 2016 If you open it in Word, and turn on special characters what's it show? (The little icon next to AZ sort button normally) Steve This.... And this output is from a routine we run to validate parental contacts on our Moodle VLE.
Steve21 Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 Aye that linebreak after Missing Title will cause you the problem. Calc ignores them when it's doing it's import. If it's always starting with "missing" for the issues. Open it in word, turn on special chars and do a find and replace - Replace ^pM with " M" (space M not ") Will bring all the Missing Parts to the same line, at least for the test example Steve 1

elsiegee40 Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 "ID","Title","Forename","Surname","Address","P ost Code","Parental resp.","Linked learners","Potential issues" "8063","","G","Adams","","","No","[learner 8336] (no Moodle account found) (Without parental responsibility)","Missing Title Missing Post Code" Is the space between the P and the o in postcode significant? (my bold)
