that no new headphone jack is a real dealbreaker for me.

Its not just my headphones, but car stereo, home stereo, other home stereo, mates stereo etc etc

'tis a lot of kit that'd have to be replaced, and or what, a second speaker i'll never use >.<

 

I know I can use the lightning adapter, but i charge and listen at the same time. Plus I've never been convinced by bluetooth sound quality. Every device I've used seems to lose a lot of bass

Nice if you do a lot of photography I suppose, other than that...

 

More than happy staying on my 6+ for now, hoping the 10th anniversary one next year will be something a bit special, for a start if you want me to plug my headphones in through the lightning port I would like wireless charging please!

Like that fact they've upgraded all existing phones to a minimum of 32gb too.

 

Apparently the real big changes are for iPhone 8 as its 10 years since the original iPhone.

I have to say, I think they are crazy for removing the headphone socket... I wonder if that lightning adapter to 3.5mm jack will come with the iPhone... and how much it will be to replace!

 

Annoying you can't charge it and listen to music on an amp or speakers... unless they are wireless... as for the tag line of 'courage' for doing this... I suspect Apple courage is the new politically correct name for Dutch courage...

Cannot wait for some Airpods. I use earphones everyday, so use the 3.5mm jack but that cable is annoying. So won't miss it, plus there is an adaptor in the box for those who need it.

I always end up missing a generation with the iPhone, the new stuff always feels like "touches" more than actual "Wow". My current 6 feels miles better than my old 4s (I think it was) and even Apps run much faster etc.

 

Worth spending hundreds on this even though I don't need it? nor it's new touches? No. Certainly a nice thing to have but that's really it.

 

Losing the jack though not impressed, I have little head phones that cost me like £9 for when I'm walking around and not fussed if they get damaged. Then the expensive beat pair that I take extra care with. Then there is my car, which I plug in to (with and without the USB).

 

Certainly don't like spending another £100+ on a new wireless head phones, god forbid if they fall out and break/get lost.

 

So it's standard Apple.

Why buy the new handset when you can easily upgrade your current model using the new apple plug

Prices are also pretty horrific post referendum with the value of the pound being so low. £820 for a 128gb iPhone 7 plus!

The port is very old, I think most other brands will follow Apple. I want it, but I can understand why they got rid.

I made the mistake of buying the 16GB iPhone 6 when it was released. Fed up now with it telling me I'm low on storage.

 

Glad they got rid of 16GB but I suspect the new entry level 32GB will be in the same position in a year or so. So it looks like 128GB is the safest bet.

 

Excited for the new + dual camera. Having never owned any of the + models before I'm sure I'll get used to it.

 

Now the decision is either the Jet Black or the normal Black. Both same price for 128GB! Decisions decisions!

 

Also gusted I was to impatient and bought the watch last year. Wish I had waited now for series 2 with it being waterproof!

Apparently the AirPods do contain some secret Apple sauce.

 

Apple's AirPods won't play nice with a majority of devices

 

If you were hoping to snag a pair of Apple's AirPods when they went on sale in October for use with your non-Apple device, think again. The wireless earbuds use a proprietary technology that will make it only compatible with Apple's current product line.

 

According to the folks at The Verge, although the AirPods rely on Bluetooth, they also use a proprietary technology that will prevent it from connecting with unsupported devices. The proprietary technology in question is the 'Apple W1 chip', which allows the earbuds to detect when they are in your ear, pair automatically and perform all the other impressive features mentioned at the press event.

 

The AirPods will be on store shelves starting in October and will have a retail price of $159. The wireless earbuds will be compatible with a wide variety of Apple products and will require that the device to be updated to the latest versions of iOS 10, watchOS 3 or macOS Sierra.

 

Edit. Perhaps the reason most Bluetooth audio devices suck is because the chips inside them are made by other companies? In theory this shouldn't be the case with the AirPods since all of the components are made by Apple.

AirPods use Bluetooth for their connection. Bluetooth headphones have historically suffered from a conga line of connectivity problems: onerous pairing, dropped connections, crappy sound. Apple is confident it’s solved them all with that W1 chip. “As you can imagine, by developing our own Bluetooth chip and controlling both ends of the pairing process there’s a lot of magic we can do,” Ternus says. “We use a Bluetooth connection, but cover it in a lot of secret sauce.”

 

Just what’s in the secret sauce, Apple won’t say. But AirPods have been in development for a while. “These are as advanced a project as Apple Pencil,” Schiller told me. “We started this project when we started the Watch project. We knew we needed a great wireless solution for audio. We said, ‘What if you could design what the future of headphones should look like?’ That’s what we asked the team to do.”

 

The combined promise of sound quality, a steady Bluetooth connection, the battery life, the voice control, and ease of pairing across devices, all free of wires — if it all works, these things do seem to provide value an order of magnitude greater than even the priciest wired buds. But it’s also up to Apple to sell these things, to convince people that they want them. That’s harder, but not impossible. (Sidenote: AirPods will work with non-Apple devices. No secret sauce, though).

How long before someone tried to use both ports to charge their phone though... could be an issue...
