sturgeo Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 We're experiencing a strange issue with Office 2016 and inserting online videos from youtube. You can click on the button, search for a video on youtube, click on an appropriate result and click insert it doesnt work, the same goes for using an embed code. "Powerpoint is inserting media" pops up on the status bar for a split second and then disappears. Oddly if you log in locally to the machine (rather than a domain account) it works fine so we know that it works and its not the firewall blocking it
cdgill241183 Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 Did you ever get to the bottom of this as I am having the same issue and cant find anything online.
3s-gtech Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 It may be the same as in Office 2010 and 2013, where you have to insert them as a Flash object via the advanced settings. Not straightforward at all, but better than nothing.
cdgill241183 Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 To be honest I think it's a policy object or access writes which is causing the issue as works as admin but it's affecting all the office suite
sturgeo Posted September 20, 2016 Author Posted September 20, 2016 (edited) I'm finding it doesn't work if you're an admin either, i'm going to try a normal domain user with no folder redirection (appdata etc) to see if that behaves differently. edit: nope, still doesn't work edit again: logged in as a domain admin, doesn't work. right-click run as administrator, still doesn't work... profit10 Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 Did you ever find a solution to this? I am experiencing the same thing for my staff but it works for students and admin users. The only difference are policies but I can't find anything that obviously would cause this.
sturgeo Posted October 6, 2016 Author Posted October 6, 2016 Nope not yet, thats interesting, are you trying the same accounts on the same machine? that'll narrow it down to either a machine or user policy
profit10 Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 Yeah. If a teacher logs onto a student machine it doesn't work but if a student does it will work. It also works for me as an admin.
sturgeo Posted October 6, 2016 Author Posted October 6, 2016 We use folder redirection (inc AppData), no roaming profiles, and most GPOs are blocked for admins as we disabled inheritance on the OU.
cdgill241183 Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 Just in the process of imaging a PC in a fresh OU with all policy's attached and removing 1 by 1 until I see something affecting the office suite. Will update when fully tested, but getting time at the minute is a pain.
Poults Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 We got an error in office 2013 when inserting YouTube videos and there were 2 Microsoft KBs we had to install to rectify it, maybe this has similar?
sturgeo Posted November 22, 2016 Author Posted November 22, 2016 I found the solution to this for us, IE setting -> "Internet Options -> Advanced -> Security -> Do no save encrypted pages to disk" was ticked, once unticked the videos work fine.
