Hello all!

We are looking into moving away from our Mifare cards which we use with our current print management system and our NRS cashless catering system over to Paxton. We currently use Paxton for our door control systems and it is also compatible with our new print management system too. Does anybody here use Paxton cards with their NRS catering system over the standard Mifare offering or know if this is possible? We have called NRS but they didn't seem to understand what it was we were asking them so we haven't got an answer from them.

Any information is much appreciated!

Thanks

question, why not use the Mifare cards with Paxton?

They should work with the universal Paxton readers. The card numbers will be different between paxton and most other systems, but there is a formula to convert I believe.

It does depend on what card readers you are using at the moment.

We use the same cards for Paxton, NRS and print release, BUT they are Mifare cards with a magnetic stripe and NRS and Print release just reads the magnetic strip while Paxton uses the NFC hardware on the card. We are looking at a sign in system which will be able deal with both the mag stripe and the NFC device.

We are due to have inVentry sign in installed over the October half term which has triggered this thread, wed want to rationalise everything. I didn't realise that the Paxton readers would read the Mifare cards however. Thanks @pcstru

You'll perhaps be better to move to MiFare now as going forward there's a good chance you'll be able to get them to work with other software solutions as opposed to the Paxton cards.

@jdoldridge - how are plans going with this?

We're looking at Inventry for Easter, NRS for , and Paxton for summer - our ID badges for various systems are mifare so I want to use them for all the above.

How is NRS cashless as a system, and are you integrating it to Inventry?

@howartp - Well not much has changed really, I have however found out our Paxton desktop readers do not take the Mifare cards so I think we will stick with them for now and use the fobs for the doors still until we can work out a better solution.

I think we will just roll out the "one card for all" policy when we have worked it out nicely with the Paxton system but if you have more time to figure out how to get Paxton working with Mifare cards then that's better (please let me know if you do)

We aren't linking inVentry with NRS (I don't even know why this would be possible anyway or what purpose it would serve either) but the NRS system is fairly stable, all running nicely off of a VM

I think it's around the sync of user data - I guess both systems pull from MIS so that's ok, but if you register a mifare card in one, it would be great if it pulled into the other without having multiple lots of card registration procedures.
