PXE and Cisco switches

Good morning all,

 

I've reconfigured all our switches across school with 5 VLANs (default:1 , then additionals for VOIP, Guest aceess etc.). The ports are all set to trunk with default VLAN 1

 

Since doing that, I no longer seem to be able to PXE boot over the network (for our SCCM server)

 

I've added an IP helper on VLAN 1 for both our DHCP and PXE servers but still no joy.

 

Can anyone point me in the right direction for resolving this as a matter of urgency

Have you set options 66 and 67 on your new DHCP scopes? You'll need these as the clients can't broadcast the request across to a different subnet.

What VLAN do your DHCP and PXE servers sit on and what VLAN do the devices you're trying to PXE boot sit on?

I guess that you are doing ip routing on the Core switch.

 

You need to add an ip helper address pointing to the WDS/PXE server on all the vlans that are not on the same vLAN as the WDS server if that makes sense.

Thanks for your suggestions everyone =- it turned out to be something really simple. All the ports were configured as trunks, and a such weren't initialising in time for the PXE request. Once I changed them to access prots, everything started to work again.

When using SCCM is option is not supported. Only IP Helpers are supported.
