Had this issue with smoothwall blocking windows update via a proxy. Might be worth looking at if your running anything like that. Think in the end i used a proxy with no restrictions until the LA had solved the problem.

The initial search for updates on Windows 7 SP1 seems to take 4-5 hours these days. Even with the hotfixes and the convenience rollup I can't see to get it reduced much.

Try logging on as a different user and then perform Windows Updates - that's worked for me a few times when it just sits their for days searching for updates. Logging back in as the original user after any updates have been installed then seems to work.

Thanks for all the tips guys - I will try logging on as a different user and the hot fixes.

The laptop is cabled in so speed wise should be ok...

Shut down button showing nothing...

Just remembered as writing this - changed servers about a month back now - will also check that the laptop is not using the old dns setting... Doh!

Comment about speed just jogged that memory...

Well .. got past the updates search hanging to now getting [h=1]WindowsUpdate_80072EE2 error instead -no amount of googling helps find an answer -I'm sure there was a fix on the microsoft page but the download isn't there anymore... [/h]any ideas?
