Hello!

I am wondering what strategies people use for deploying and managing Logic Pro X.

It took me a lot of effort to come up with an imaging strategy, I would have preferred thin provisioning with Logic Pro being installed by Casper or Deploy Studio, however have had to settle for a large image with Logic Pro and content (as well as Sibelius and content).

Has anyone managed to do this another way?

We use AD for authentication but have local account created on the machines, this leaves me with a couple of annoying issues and am wondering if anyone has a workaround?

1. Logic Pro X asks to download additional content for each new account, even though its all there in the image.

2. When a user starts Alchemy for the first time on a new account the library is refreshed and can take anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes depending on the machine.

Cheers,

Nick

We using this during imaging which gets the additional content on to the Mac: https://github.com/carlashley/appleLoops/

Still had the indexing when first loaded but I believe their is a way to extract the index from one user and copy it to others, not tried it yet.

New to check our end of deployment script to see if does anything else to get it working.

i should have been a little clearer about my setup. We have deployed Logic pro x via VPP as I was not aware of this issue. I thought that if I downloaded the content under an admin account that content would be available for all users that login using network accounts but of course it is not.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We currently deploy the clean os created from the installer using autodmg. Office, Adobe are deployed as pkgs, chrome etc copied over. The Apple apps like Logic are done via VPP. Appleloops runs during the deployment. Another script then does various system tweaks.

Will try to check the script tomorrow to see it is doing any tweaks to stop each user having to download, I did the script over a year ago and it has been untouched since, seem to remember that as long as all the apple loops got deployed in the right order which the appleloops script does it stopped the redownload prompt.

Planning to rejig things over Easter as want to move to High Sierra (limit for our 2010 iMacs) as we need to start deploying Adobe 2019 as well. Will also be trying out NoMAD and NoMAD login. Currently using a very unstable deploystudio setup but thinking of trying out twocanoes MDS as an alternative.

Hi CWK2,

Would be wiling to provide a quick guide on how you used the Appleloops script to download the sound files for your users as I still seem to be having issues.

ha, I'm glad I bailed on doing the MACs this way, I have a local student account, then tell the kids to upload to their one drive. I only have 15 MACs though. Logic Pro 9 and X mix.

p.s. I hate firewire.
