Anyone who visits our office:

 

Phew! Why is it so hot in here? It isn't this bad where I am. Don't you have air conditioning?

 

We have glass on three sides of the office. This wouldn't be so bad but:

 

We can't open the windows.

The view is nothing to write home about.

That may be about to change:

 

Areas of heavy thunderstorms will continue to affect parts of Scotland and northern England into this afternoon before slowly clearing away northeast. However isolated heavy thunderstorms may still develop across Scotland and parts of England, including some central, eastern and southeastern areas, this afternoon and this evening.

 

Whilst most places will miss the worst, please be aware of the risk of localised flash flooding. Frequent lightning, large hail and strong winds could be additional hazards. All of this could lead to some flooding of homes, businesses and transport networks. Disruption to power is also possible.

 

This update excludes areas further west where the thunderstorm risk has now diminished, but increases the extent of the warning area across eastern and southeastern England.

 

Hot, moist air spreading north and northeast across the UK today will produce thunderstorms, initially organised within large areas of rain before becoming more isolated this afternoon. Rainfall will be very variable, but some places could see around 30 mm in an hour and more than 50 mm in a few hours.

 

The thunderstorms later this afternoon are likely to be most widespread across northern England and Scotland, and it is here that there is the greatest risk of disruption. Further south, they will be much more isolated, with disruption less likely, across the rest of England.

It turned cloudy here about 9am so the thermometer stuck at 23C.

 

The sun came out properly about an hour ago, but it's still quite pleasant here at the moment.

We had heavy rain showers and thunder from between 6.30 - 8.30. Sun is out again now and nice blues skies. Also a lot less humid than it was. Hope it's like this on Friday.

It's a very humid 27C down here today, almost more unpleasant than yesterday which was 32C but pure heat. However, hope it at hand, it's the New Forest Show next week and that show nearly always guarantees the end of a drought...

Too hot for a fire alarm/evacuation, which we just had.

 

And there was an exam running.

 

I was students spraying antiperspirant/deodorant at one of the smoke hoods.

Air con is on in the office as normal, and the server room do is beside me if i really want a cold blast of air! :-)

Didn't arrive. It's lost in the DPD network and no one knows where it is.

 

Mrs sparkeh was not impressed and phoned Amazon. Never mess with a hot, grumpy, 37 week pregnant lady who was expecting her first cool nights sleep in a long time. A new one is arriving today!
