FFT Aspire Year 6 > 7 Starters

Another FFT Aspire issue - does anyone know if current Year 6 students(our "new" Y7 as of September) can be imported into Aspire to generate targets/estimates....before they actually commence Y7?

Don't think it's possible until FFT roll the system forward a year. FFT will have to update all their models for estimates based on this years KS2 results not being levels and these results aren't in FFT as yet (for schools to view).

At an update event last week we were given the impression that it will be late September / early October before there will be any chance of Aspire providing forecasts for the new Y7's

Just out of interest what type of estimate are you using for Y7? GCSE grade or NC level?

Hmm. New KS2 input and new KS4 output. Any kind of estimate will be pretty rough and ready for years.

True, although always worth bearing in mind that any predictions for individual students at best a very rough guide. FFT estimates (back when the FFT gave single grade estimates) were about twice as likely to be wrong than right.

I've been doing quite a lot of comparisons for our new y10 students, in order to come up with a number (as opposed to letter) target grade that looks challenging yet achievable, but also doesn't lead to a negative Progress 8 score. I recognise this approach is debatable, given the number of variables in play and the fact Progress 8 is calculated retrospectively, BUT...

 

What I have found is that in our school at least, if students achieved at FFT20, or even FFT5, some students would still get a negative P8 score (using the DfE A* estimates for 2015). Comparing them to a rough conversion of the old 4LP/FFT-D targets we already had on the system, most are lower. I've also modelled using the 2015 A8 estimate as a target, and splitting it between the 3 buckets of P8 using 4Matrix. This produces another (fairly sensible) rough estimate.

 

Has anyone done similar work, or already decided how they will approach this?

Have done the same for current Y7s to 11(using current grade structure), also to achieve P8 target - though have to set fairly tough targets for students to reach this. Debatable...
