My school is wanting to trial Teacher desk machines [we have a few spare for this - but more will have to be bought to cover all staff] and particularly direct contact with the admin team.

The SMT are currently posing the problem of attendance monitoring on a lesson by lesson basis, much the same as can be achieved using Lesson Monitor for SIMS .net

[The county SIMS support team are confident that all our LEA schools will move to Lesson Monitor in the not too distant future - out Head is meeting about this this week]

Does anyone know of any interim solution we could use? - I can't think of anything off the top of my head - something like an intranet hosted database that the trial staff could access together with the attendance officer who would be inputting the old paper info at the same time.

Do you already have SIMS? Try and get a trial of lesson monitor from capita, but use lesson register in SIMS .net instead. All you need is a sql licence file that enables it.

It would save setting anything up, creating class lists etc.

Hi Guys,

We are using Lesson Monitor, had the odd problem every now and then but nothing major. We have a setup of all staff having a Tablet PC connected to a Wireless Network.

It is very user friendly and like Steve says there is no mesing around as the class list etc etc are already "known" to the system.

Each Teacher has there classes presented to them for that day, but they are also able to select another teacher should they be covering a class.

The License File is all that is needed to get Lesson Monitor working , as you will already have the program setup from the SIMS.net install.

I know for a fact that Capita will not give you a trial version of the software... they will come out and give you a demo/presentation of the software, but not a trial version you can install on your own systems.

Any further info required drop let me know.

Regards,

How extensive is the wireless network you run Sims .net with lesson register over? We are having problems with ours. Windows is being a pain and not running the scripts which map the sims drive amongst others when the laptops log on to the domain over the wireless. I have tried a number of things in group policy to delay the scripts etc, but to no avail.

Have you tried the option that forces windows to wait for the network before you can log in?

Computer -> Administrative templates -> System -> Logon -> Always wait for the network at computer startup and login. That might help if its not already on.
