Guidance making a ghost boot disc with netbootdisk.com

Hi

 

I am trying to create a floppy boot disc with netbootdisk.com I have followed the instructions that come with the download. I have created the bootdisc but how do I make the configurations?

 

I am totally lost now

 

You guidance will be appreciated

Once you have created the floppy you have two chioces, edit the two files below or boot the floppy and when prompted (30 second time limit to press key or it continues) manually enter the settings for your network.

 

\NetBoot\menupref.bat

\NetBoot\FileCopy\Logon.bat

 

Remember you cannot logon to a windows 2003 server or later, unless you lower the server security settings.

When I boot from the disc I get to the commend prompt. I would have thought I would need to add something to the disc for ghost but what?

You need to add ghost.exe, sadly there isn't room on the disk. You have a few options.

 

1. Set up an Linux sever that'll host ghost.exe which you can connect to from netboot disk. You might also be able to adjust your severs so you can connect.

 

2. Burn net boot disk to a bootable CD and then add ghost.exe. This means o have to enable CDROM support in netbootisk.

 

3. Create a 2.88 floppy image with netboot disk and ghost. Burn this image to a bootable CD rom. This has two advantages, one you can place ghost.exe in the directory that gets automaticaly coppied to the NBD ram drive and two you don't have enable CD ROM support. This is the option I took, I can't remeber exactly how I did it and I'm not back in the office till Thursday. If this thread isn't resolved by then I'll have a look.

 

4. Put ghost.exe on a second disk, swap disks once NBD has loaded.

 

5. If you're uisng ghost 8 or later ignore NBD and use BartPE.

 

6. PXE

I run Ghost from the bootable CD rom I have but you can run it from a share. See the logon scripts page for that.

Hi guys

 

What i have done is put ghost.exe on a network share. When i try to map a drive in the bootdisk i get the following error

 

The password was invalid

 

I can assure you I have entered the correct password and it does have permissions on tat account.

 

Could this be the Server 2003 problem?

Read the documentation for NetBootDisk, it mentions that it can't access shares on 2003 servers (and I think 2000) without making adjustments.

 

Or make a boot CD with ghost.exe on it.

Right, are you using the CD boot disk or are you using the floppy still ?

If the floppy- then make a bootable CD rom with Ghost on.

The next thing isto make sure when you boot you have an IP address - have you got one ? Run IPCONFIG to check.

 

Once you have done that - let us know if you still have a problem.

Have you put Ghost on the CD and enabled the CD driver on the CD ?

I think the default drive for the CD is R: [ thats what I set mine to ]

So you can change to the driver letter that the CD rom has been applied for then ? If so, can you do a dir on the directory ?

Well you need to edit the original boot disk [ floppy ] so the CD rom support is enabled, then burn the bootable CD rom. Or what may be easier if you use the new menu preference editor GUI:

If you still get stuck after that, I'll make a .ISO of my latest CD rom [ Tomorrow ] - you can then download that, burn it and see if that works.

I have managed to get ghost working from a virtual server 2000 install so it looks like that is the problem. Ideally i would like to use Server 2003 but i cannot find how to achieve this. Thanks for your help.
