Removing vs Disabling in Exchange

Could anyone clarify if I've got this right:

 

Selecting Remove mailbox in EMC will remove both the mailbox and the user from AD (immediately?)

 

Selecting Disable mailbox in EMC will move the mailbox to disconnected mailboxes (which will then delete as per retention policy), leaving the user in AD?

I think that's right, that's one I always get confused too.

 

Whoever at Microsoft thought that wording was a good idea needs thumping.

Correct if you remove mailbox this deletes the user. Not just the mailbox

 

I have done it myself thinking it would as it says remove mailbox but no...

Correct.

 

Disabling is the reverse action to mail-enabling an existing AD account. It returns to being a simple AD account with no mailbox. That bit I have no problem with.

 

Removing... bye bye AD account.
