RAID 6

Hi forum!

 

We have a SAN running 12x 3TB SAS drives in RAID 6. One of the drives failed and has to be replaced. Our supplier sent us a 4TB drive. Exactly the same model and speed, just 1TB more. Would it be a problem if I used a 4TB in a 3TB array?

Shouldn't be. The array will just only use 3TB of it.

I shouldn't think so, most RAID controllers will just use 3TB of the 4, and ignore the rest.

I agree, it'll be fine.

 

I've put 1TB disks into a SAN which otherwise ran 500GB disks before, that worked perfectly.

Had the same problem just the other day, replaced the drive with the same make but different size, not a problem so I would say go for it
