Sleep Mode - Won't wake up

I have a friend who has a Windows 10 Packard Bell PC, bought without any advice but does the job.

 

They have reported the computer will not always wake up after sleep by moving mouse, they have to turn it off at the power switch and back on. I've tweaked power settings and still no joy put the issue is intermittent.

 

He says he gets a white line around the edge of the monitor but it will not wake. The only power setting is to turn the monitor off after 10 minutes. I've been today and had another look but no joy, its still doing it.

 

He's going to swap to another base unit to check the monitor but I suspect its something hardware related on the PC but not something I've come across before. I'm not a big Windows 10 user yet so not had much experience so any suggestions I am welcome to them!

This can be caused by a number of things which may become a process of elimination.

Iv seen many computers do this for various different reasons. Here are a few

Replace Vga cable

Reset the monitor to factory default

See if there is an update to your graphics driver

I read about a bios setting that can be tweaked.

We have a group of hp monitors when the inverter dies you have to unplug the monitor and plug it back in

A lot of our machines (Win 10 ones) won't wake from Sleep using the mouse, you need to use the keyboard to wake them.

Cheers will bare it in mind. I don't use 10 yet and every time I've been to the PC its behaved for me.

he could change the sleep mode from s3 to s1 and in some BIOS there is a setting that says if it should reset the graphics on wakeup.

What power plan is he running? Sometimes OEM's create their own and make it the default. Might try changing to one of the default plans (balanced or high performance). Also, I would check for a BIOS update for his PC (they often times will correct issues of this sort):

I've changed the power plan, first thing I did. Got a few things to try now when I next get up there (its 50 mile away!).
