Sensitive question - using the 'U' code in a register

What time does your school stop using a 'L' code and start using a 'U' code? As you may know the difference being an authorised/unauthorised code which can make a difference to school session attendance data.

 

Interested as it seems to differ with schools on location.

I am not from a school - I represent 'a company' who supply software. I shall say no more as I dont want this to look like an ad! I am truly interested in your feedback as I work with many schools and the question has been asked lots of times!

Can I ask how it is sensitive? Is it due to the possibilty if fudging attendance stats?

 

As far as I am aware until the Pastoral staff know that a student is actually missing from school it goes in as late/absent. They then investigate and if no good reason is forth coming then Unauthorised goes in.

 

This is only my understanding though it may not be how it actually is.
