sted Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 I'm more excited about Scorpio than I am about the Xbox One S, and it great that it will retain compatibility with existing games. Time to start saving this thing is going to be expensive. yes the s is like the 360 slim its a refresh thats cheaper to make but dosent really add anything (though it looks to add more than the 360 slim) the scorpio is to my mind the first step in moving xbox1 from a single box to a platform (much as windows or android is) so all the devices run the same os and conform to an architecture type but they are not all equal. So there is probably nothing stopping you running "most" windows xp software from 2002 on a current windows 10 device (yes not all software works but windows is a less stringent platform than i expect xbox 10 to be)
Dos_Box Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 For me the Scorpio would be a nice toy but as I have young(ish) children it would be wasted as a gaming machine as it would still be running child freindly titles which will be thin on the ground for the first year or so after it's lauch as you can be assured that the first big releases (whilst awesome) will be for the older age group. That and I don't own a 4k TV yet but have it on the list for next year!

JJonas Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 is a 4K TV going to be required or would I get away with my low res 1080P TV?
sted Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 is a 4K TV going to be required or would I get away with my low res 1080P TV? i cant see it being required as i suspect it will still do 720i to cater to lowest common denominator but i suspect its something you will want if its capable of doing it
GuyJD Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 is a 4K TV going to be required or would I get away with my low res 1080P TV?the current xbox one will run at 640x480 if you want it to so I can't see them dropping 1080 for a while yet
sted Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 blimey if you want a 4k hdr tv something like £1400 and not sure i have room for a 55" screen the 42 i have now is probably about as big as i have room for easily and £300 for an amp more if i want atmos and means leaving sony which im loathe to do as i like having 1 remote for all my av stuff
Dos_Box Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 I wonder if Nintendo (due to release NX in March next year it is rumoured) have seen the specs and gone 'Oh....bugger'? Nintendo have just a few scraps to throw towards the Wii U this year and at this rate will be loosing market share hand over fist. I suspect if they don't leak somehting soon lots of people will be pencilling in the Sony and Microsoft offerings rather that wait for a mystery console from a company with a reputation for producing underpowered and poorly supported machines. So come on Nintendo, throw us a bone here!

I can understand not wanting to do it at e3 as it would probably get lost in the sony/ms news but they need to show something sooner rather than later as the wii-u is basically dead theres about 2 games left to come out tokoyo mirage sessions #fe and mario colour splash and thats all she wrote. The 3ds i healthier but not much now fire emblem fates is out im struggling to see bar pokemon whats upcoming for it

With the Wii U debacle they should be making gamers drool at the prospect of what is to come now, not shake their heads and look towards the competition who are showing some of their cards. Nintendo has a HUGE problem communicating with gamers IMO.

I feel splatoon was a step in the right direction its a new ip not relying on nostalgia like mario/zelda/smash but released on a console few people own. They really need to say what they are doing soon and have 3rd party support the wii-u proves they cant do the entire console software catalogue alone like it or not you need fifa and cod however dull those games are they sell systems (or more to the point not having them dosent)
Dos_Box Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 I see Amazon have the 2TB version on pre-order for £350: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01GVN15BM?ref=spkl_2_1_973008227&qid=1465914886&pf_rd_p=973008227&pf_rd_m=A1F83G8C2ARO7P&pf_rd_t=301&pf_rd_s=desktop-auto-sparkle&pf_rd_r=6BYQ6E12BNXKHNTQENTY&pf_rd_i=xbox+one+s Can't find any other sizes yet. Compared to £208 for a 1st gen 500Gb model it looks a tad expensive seeing as you could add a 2TB USB 3.0 drive for less than £70. Mind you, you do get 4k Blu-Ray

JonThompson Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 I'm tempted to upgrade from the Xbox 360 Elite to this, but it's in white. Now if only it was in black I'd be tempted straight away. But then, if I purchase this, I've then got to upgrade my TV as well to get the best from it.
Matt_Renato Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 Yes, but looking at the videos on YouTube, it isn't easy, and you almost need three hands... You just plug the drive into a USB port.
JonThompson Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 You just plug the drive into a USB port. I thought @Dos_Box was on about referring to replacing the internal drive, hence I mentioned YouTube, but yes you can just plug a USB drive into it.
Matt_Renato Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 That makes sense now! I remember the trouble I had trying to open an Xbox 360.

I guess it depends on if you want a warranty on your XBox or not - not sure I'd want to open up a brand new XBox (thus voiding the warranty) whereas if it's out of warranty then there's pretty much no risk! You're right about needing three hands though! I took mine to work where we have a proper IT workbench (and 3 other people to help me) to take it apart to replace the optical drive that was scratching discs
Dos_Box Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 I am definately NOT opening up a new XBox One! USB 3.0 should be plenty fast enough for game storage for now.

True, but then it's not in one box, neat and tidy you've got something hanging out the front/back of the thing - I know how OCD some of us techies are!

JJonas Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 Xbox One price cut to £209 Xbox One Gets A Price Cut In US & UK - Xbox One, Xbox 360 News At XboxAchievements.com
Dos_Box Posted June 16, 2016 Posted June 16, 2016 (edited) Just looking on Ebay and there are quite a few people asking very silly amounts for their consoles (even with a couple of games) and are probably not going to shift them unless they go below the £200 mark, which no one seems to be wanting to do. Many are well above £300! Edited June 16, 2016 by Dos_Box
