Windows 10 Education Deployment/Apps Articles

Microsoft have very handily sent over a few links to us and I think they could of great use to many of you who will be using them in the very near future:

ive tried to have a look at the setup schools pc app but even installing the latest preview release and downloading latest adk i just cant find the app to have a play with all i seem to find is it exists (and basically that page or similar ones)

Interesting. Has anyone else found/used them yet? If not I'll go and ask some questions for you.

Not used it myself, but I believe its a Windows Store App you have to add, to then create the setup file.

This is the kind of deployment method that could work for the low-cost "Cloudbooks" MS are selling to try and combat ChromeOS. Seems like there's two scenarios these days:

 

1) classic "Enterprise" network with high-spec machines, GPOs etc.

2) low-cost, cloud first devices that rely on Azure \ Google Apps

 

Trying to use one of these Cloudbooks in method 1) would be painful so may give this Azure AD method a try with the Win10 devices we've been trialling. That said unless we start publishing legacy apps through RemoteApp I still wonder what we gain by using Win10 over a Chromebook as there's still AV and Windows Updates to contend with. Ironically if we enable SAML SSO with GApps the MS web apps work rather well on ChromeOS

 

Interested to see how multi-user login works with these on Azure AD, thus far it seems to want a 1:1 relationship in the devices we've deployed so far.

There seems to be a complete lack of information in the guides provided in the links about the use of setting up user profiles for students, as it's been requested time and time before for simpler ways of managing / creating these in school environments, Mandatory profiles ideally, where all users in a classroom can use the exact same profile.

 

I've read about the new "Shared PC" features of the Windows ICD tool, but again, I don't really know what this does exactly and if it is our answer to the profile issues, but the guides fail to mention any of that.

 

We all know how much fun it is trying to get Printers to work / deploy in classrooms, but the notes in the guide "Deploying Windows 10 in a School" make it sound a piece of P**s... although it does sound like they gave up half way writing the notes and left all the other steps out!

I was gonna say I've not seen much documentation on Shared PC.

 

I started to thing it's something to do with Microsoft InTune.

 

It's similarly like that on iPads, in Apple Configurator a line appeared on Blueprints saying Shared iPads : NO... How do I make it yes i thought looking through the help guides... nothing
