A3 Inkjet printer for photographs

Art department are looking for a new inkjet for printing photos, any suggestions?

What sort of budget? I rate Canon's inkjets in the consumer space - durable, simple and cheap. Any A3 inkjet photo printer will cost a fortune to run by its nature, so bear that in mind and make sure the department foots the bill!

With high capacity inks, that one doesn't look too brutal to run. It's not specifically a photo printer, but as a business model it gives a good compromise with an ethernet connection and still looks like it can do a good print.

Looking at that review, "the PIXMA iX range is for business printers, where the PIXMA iPs are photographic" on that basis should I be looking at the Canon PIXMA iP8750 - Inkjet Photo Printers - Canon UK ?

In a school, I'd say no. That model loses ethernet (surely a huge benefit?) and the photo printing credentials of the iX series are still pretty hot.

I'm not sure I'd want to network it. Attach to teacher's PC, then only print "finished product" at photographic quality, once teacher is happy. Cheap to run laser for knocking out proofs.

It needs to be networked but restricted access. Same as their laser.

We had an Epson Stylus Photo R2880 for a couple of years. The quality was pretty good for A3 photos, but the inks were expensive. The Art department ended up buying a refilable ink reservoir system thingy and it would get blocked up frequently (It was a plastic reservoir that would sit on the side of the printer and you would use a syringe to top up the inks). The ink would either dry on the print head and cause a blockage (so a certain colour wouldn't print) or the tubes containing the inks would get blocked and require regular servicing. It worked out a fair bit cheaper to do it this way but it did cost a good few man hours unblocking the tubes and cleaning the print heads.

Just a heads up in case you were considering this option.

We are using the canon 100s and its been great. Not heard a thing about it. Highly recommend the canons.
