kshah58 Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 (edited) This may have been asked before...but a school's IT manager would like know if workstations can be reimaged with the SOLUS 3 agent included. I assume this fine to do as long as the IT team do not change the Computer Names. Edited May 26, 2016 by kshah58
synaesthesia Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 Fairly pointless considering how easy it is to push Solus3 out from the console, which frankly is much of it's selling point. Especially as it's so tiny. 1
Bubbles Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 ^^ This. You'd still have to manually define what software will be installed (SIMS/FMS/Discover) on the workstation via the UI even with an agent pre-installed, so you might as well just add it once it's been re-imaged and cut out all the faff. 1
round2it Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 Dont do it you will regret it. 2 seconds to push out the client from solus 3 do sims and discover at the same time. just use the console 1
neilenormal Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 as @round2it said - Don't do it The image will have a GUID still linked to the old agent, and causes all sorts of problems - remove solus3 agent before making an image is good advice 1
sparkeh Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 I kinda can't see the point. You need to use the S3 UI to define what clients install what software anyway. If you assign software to a PC then the agent gets installed anyway. The clients have GUID so all the agents will report back with the same GUID. Good luck sorting that out 1
round2it Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 your not putting antivirus on the image also are you? same thing you will open a world of pain if you start putting lots of software in an image. I push out AV office and other programs via gpo on first startup. yes it takes a bit longer but you have the ability to just have a base image and you can update software as and when accordingly. 1
superfletch Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 This links to the same question asked some time back. http://www.edugeek.net/forums/mis-systems/149397-does-sysprep-have-any-effect-solus-3-a.html#post1438276 1
kshah58 Posted May 27, 2016 Author Posted May 27, 2016 Hi All, Thanks for all your feedback. I will get in contact with the school's IT manager and tell him not to do it.
