One of the teachers has asked if they can have Goole Picasa2 on certain computers in the school. I downloaded this and it is a .exe file not a msi.

Does anyoen else use this and deployed it? :(

Is there any restrictions on using this in school?

Having just found picasa to help me locate images so I can find suitable ones for use on our website I think it's great.

I also think it will be great for home use to catalogue all your digital photos and do some manupulation.

However when deploying it to multiple machines are they all going to rescan the same resources?

I had a look at this: It would seem that Picasa stores a data file in each directory it scans containing thumbnails of each image and details of any filters applied. This is important - Picasa doesn't change the original file, it just applies filters and stores the results in its own data file somehow. I don't know how it handles multiple users scanning the same directory and trying to write data to the same data file, but my guess is "badly". I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who's got it to work properly (because otherwise I've got to finish writing my web/Flash based network-capable image manipulation utility).
