adamf Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Hi, We have a problem (so far on only one teachers laptop) where Adobe Acrobat Reader will not open. Is displays the following error: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem. This happens logged on as a teacher or an administrator. I've tried a repair, that didn't work, I've also uninstalled it and re-installed it which also didn't work. Any one else come across this? Regards, Adam.
Face-Man Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 I would try to manually remove it http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb400769&sliceId=1 and then start again
adamf Posted February 7, 2008 Author Posted February 7, 2008 I've tried the manual uninstall, removing any remaining registry entries and re-installed a newer version (8.1.2) and it is still producing the same error. I'm thinking something on the OS now is causing this Any ideas?

We had this on one user and it was due to fact that they had ran out space on there my documents and so adobe couldn't save to their my settings folder. Russ
adamf Posted February 7, 2008 Author Posted February 7, 2008 I just check on the remaining diskspace on the HDD and it's got 30GB free so i'm guessing it's not that.
russdev Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Have you got quotes on as that might be something to look at as that is where our issue was user had reached their quote.
adamf Posted February 7, 2008 Author Posted February 7, 2008 We use FSRM applying only soft quotas for the purpose of monitoring, no hard quotas are applied to staff.
Michael Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Have you tried downloading and installing Adobe Reader 8.1.2?
adamf Posted February 7, 2008 Author Posted February 7, 2008 Have you tried downloading and installing Adobe Reader 8.1.2? Tried 8.1.2 already - Makes no difference which I why I think it might be the OS.
Michael Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Sounds like a re-image or re-install is required, unless you wish to start deleting entries in the registry? It does sound like something is corrupt.
beeswax Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 This problem has arisen this week. We have 4 IT suites on this floor and before the holidays all pupils were accessing Adobe Reader without any problems. Today in 2 of the suites pupils could no longer open it. All pupils belong to the same OU. Staff can access it no problem. It's left us scratching our heads (where's the Nit Nurse when you need her?)
Michael Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 Do the pupils all use the same profile? It could be a problematic profile if staff can access Adobe Reader without any issues.
Michael Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 Create a new profile, give it a different name and allocate it to just one of your pupils (as a test) and try and run Adobe Reader.
