Leased Line/synchronous connection upload speeds

Hi,

 

Does anyone notice their leased/sync DSL upload speeds are nearly always quite a way quicker than download? One would assume it's due to current consumption on site, however our ISP no longer provides a way for us to monitor traffic without putting something inbetween their box and ours, a failure point we don't really want.

I'd start with looking at your DSL stats specifically attenuation and snrm to see what is going on. If you're a big distance from the exchange then you may well find your upload speed could be better than download

Simple answer is they shouldn't be. Unless the leased line is not sold symmetrically 1:1. And even then, the "odd" provider who does do that, tends to reduce the upload not the download.

 

I can only really speak for ourselves, but all our leased lines and our new DarkLight products are 1:1 symmetrical.

 

The only reason that immediately springs to mind (other than config or network congestion) for this is if you are pushing out big uploads (such as off site backups) that are maxing out your upstream, this in turn would then reduce the downstream too, as packet requests would be slowed due to the upstream being saturated.
